'Intensive Reading' is an elective course for students who have passed Level 5 or above in the UN English Language Programme at UN Headquarters in New York.

  2. Read The Last Lecture - the introduction, up to p.17
  3. Buy One World, Many Cultures, 5th Edition - the second book we'll be reading. ($59.40 new; as little as $6.01 with shipping if bought used). Purchase it at amazon.com or ask Jodi to do so for you.

  • In-class reading time (1/2 hour)
  • Continued with exercises in the handout from 23 September class.
  • Presentation of Progress Chart for Faster Reading. Please choose a topic on the E-learning Companion website (see homework); test your reading speed and take the quiz. Mark your reading speed and test score on this chart and bring it to the next class, on 3 October.
  1. Read pp.57-104 (if not yet finished).
  2. Complete all past handouts to give to your teacher on 3 Oct.
  3. Check your reading speed by trying an online exercise from a university-level textbook, E-learning Companion. You can read online or print it out - but if you print it, use the website to time yourself - and then do the comprehension questions WITHOUT looking at the reading.
